Words For A Cause

March 1 - March 31

This March we’re Launching Words for a Cause Month, Care workers play an essential role in our communities, offering compassion, support, and dignity to those who need it most. Yet, their voices are often unheard, and their challenges remain underappreciated. That’s why we’ve created Words for a Cause Month – a dedicated time to use the power of words to amplify the voices of care workers and advocate for the recognition they deserve.

This month-long initiative is about storytelling, advocacy, and action. Through creative writing and direct communication, we aim to highlight the value of care work, address the challenges in the sector, and inspire meaningful change.

How You Can Get Involved

Enter the Words for a Cause Writing Competition

We’re inviting all current and retired care workers to share their experiences and insights through poetry, blog posts, short stories, or articles (up to 750 words). The theme is The Power of Care, and entries should reflect the vital role care workers play in our society.

Why Enter?

  • Share your perspective and raise awareness about care work.
  • Compete for prizes including £200, £100, and £50
  • Have your work featured in a book collating the Top 30 contributions, reaching a wider audience and amplifying your voice.

Advocate for Change: Write to Your Local MP

Advocacy doesn’t stop at storytelling. This month, we encourage care workers and supporters to write directly to their local MPs. By sharing personal stories and highlighting the challenges the care sector faces, we can urge policymakers to take meaningful action to support care workers.

Why Write to Your MP?

  • Personal stories have the power to influence and inspire action.
  • Raise awareness about the critical issues in the care sector, such as funding, pay, and working conditions.
  • Build momentum for change at a local and national level.

How to Get Started:

  • Use our letter template to help craft your message.
  • Include a personal story or example to highlight why action is needed.
  • Find your MP’s contact details https://members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP.

Why Your Voice Matters

Care workers are the backbone of our communities, but systemic challenges often leave them undervalued and underrepresented. By combining creative expression with direct advocacy, Words for a Cause Month empowers care workers and supporters to make their voices heard. Together, we can shine a light on the importance of care work and advocate for a better future for everyone in the sector.

Let’s use the power of words to create change.

Get involved today – whether by writing, advocating, or spreading the message.
