Care Innovation Challenge: Bringing innovative and creative minds to match the biggest problems facing the care sector

The Care Workers Charity (CWC) is supporting the Care Innovation Challenge. CWC’s CEO, Alex Ramamurthy, is one of the founding members.

The Care Innovation Challenge (CIC) has been created in response to the growing challenges and mounting pressure on the Care Sector. The aim: to work with creative and entrepreneurial individuals and teams to tackle some of the biggest problems facing the sector! Applications still open, click here.

CIC will take place on February 17th and 18th 2018 where teams across the country are descending on Wimbledon at the Oomph! Wellness HQ for two days of intensive ideas generation, development and prototyping. The weekend is following a ‘hackathon’ format used by many organisations like Google, Tesla and Amazon to generate new ideas and product lines to huge success. All teams will present to judges from the care sector on the Sunday afternoon, where the top five teams will be supported with four intense weeks of mentoring and funding to test and trial their project and newly forming business. The top five teams will return to Wimbledon on Saturday 17th of March to present their work and findings where we will match great idea and people with funding and pilot opportunities.

CIC’s goal is to tackle some of the biggest challenges in the sector, but also to change the perspective of the care sector. We want young adults with enthusiasm and passion to see that the care sector is not what the media often portrays, but an industry which is vibrant and fulfilling, full of intellectual challenges and opportunities.

The future of care service will be dependent on the innovation and creativity that the sector shows in the coming years. If we are to have a sector that is truly fit for purpose in the 12st-centuary, we will need to embrace innovation and technology, and to think creatively about how we remain relevant and respond to the needs and aspirations of the 21st-centuary citizens” – Prof. Martin Green OBE, CEO, Care England

There is a line-up of inspirational speakers, such as Neil Eastwood (Author of Amazon’s best seller ‘Saving Social Care’), who will offer their wisdom and advice to teams, and an organising team who are all young adults, full of ideas, enthusiasm and passion who have been through the start-up journey available to offer valuable advice and mentorship. This includes Ben Allen (Oomph!), Alex Ramamurthy (Care Workers Charity), Ashish Goyal (BRAN Investments) and Ben Wilkins (Oomph! & Fluid Motion). Arrive Digital Marketing will be supporting our budding entrepreneurs with marketing support and advice.

In addition to the speakers, CIC is working in partnership with UnLtd, the UK’s social enterprise who exist to unleash the energies of enterprising people who do good. CIC sits alongside UnLtd’s ‘Ageing Accelerator’, a funding programme specifically to fund and support ideas that improve ageing and the care sector.

“The care sector will be responsible for the health, wellbeing and quality of life of an increasing number of older adults in the decades ahead. In order to undertake this challenge, we need great ideas and innovation from dynamic and driven people who build mission-led organisations that creative positive change” – Ben Allen, CEO, Oomph! Wellness
